About Trout Lake
Nestled on the shores of a 51 kilometre-long lake of the same name, the community of Trout Lake with a population of 106 is accessible only by air charter or winter road. While it may be remote, keen anglers know a rich reward awaits.
The Fishing
Archaeological evidence indicates that Trout Lake has been a traditional fishing site for at least 2,000 years, and for good reason. This is where fish of legend are caught – community Elders recall fish exceeding 60 pounds, which puts this lake on par with world renowned Great Bear and Great Slave Lakes. Lake trout, northern pike, pickerel, whitefish and Arctic grayling are abundant.
The Lodge
A short boat ride from the community is Trout Lake Lodge, where anglers and nature lovers enjoy world class fishing and breathtaking scenery. After a good day’s fishing, visitors settle in at one of the five rustic cabins with heated wood stoves. There is a central cabin with a kitchen, dining room and lounge. Visitors can also swim along the broad, sandy beach, hike or take a cultural tour.
