Welcome to Sambaa K'e (Trout Lake) Sambaa K'e is home to approximately 110 Dene (First Nations) people and, according to the archaeological record, has been inhabited for thousands of years. The current community was established in the 1950s when people moved in from a number of surrounding outpost camps. According to Dene history, a long time ago, the lake was formed by the sleeping body of the giant Godçhle. The lake and surrounding landscape remain pristine, and are rich in fish, wildlife and cultural history. Community members still spend considerable time on the land - hunting, fishing, gathering plants and berries, and making tools and crafts. Sambaa K'e is one of the more traditional communities in the Northwest Territories. Services in Sambaa K'e include a transient centre, fishing and tourism lodge, general store, First Nation office, elementary school, and municipal garage. There are no scheduled flights into the community but air charters are available from Hay River and Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories; High Level, Alberta; and Fort Nelson, British Columbia.
